Well, I've finally dragged my ass into the 'gym', by which I mean the covered area in my yard- also home to several broken motorcycles and parts of my grandad's old machinery.
The plan is simple. Bench and squat. Maybe deadlift instead of squat every so often. That's it, except for grease the groove pullups (3-4 sets to less than failure spread throughout the day) three times daily, pushups 6 times a week and running.
That's right- running. I'm choosing to ignore all I've read about long distance cardio being bad for you, because I miss it so much. Nothing major- just once around the block to start with, with 6 sprints either spread throughout the run or at the end.
Hopefully, this is a routine I can stick to. Yesterday, I benched and squatted for the first time in ages and I'm SORE...

Performed 60 yard shuttles on the local miniature playing field. For the uninitiated, what this means is:
set up markers at 5, 10 and 15 yards from your start line. Sprint to each marker in turn, 5, 10 and 15, then in reverse, 10 and 5. This may not sound like much- 5 yards is only 3 strides to me, but believe me it'll wipe you out done quickly! I understand it's an american football thing, but the crossfit lot (whom I have nothing against by the way- it's just that their workouts inspire fear, panic and terror in me) have latched on to it, which is how I heard of it. Good times!

Worked out with my sister's boyfriend. We squatted, benched, then ran around the block. He totally kicked my ass at running!

I HAVE to stop skipping workouts! I considered myself to have an 'excuse' earlier in the week as I was mixing concrete all day. Oddly though, I got a workout in on monday. I'm determined this isn't going to be another flash in the pan. Benching and squatting tomorrow.

Squat: 3x5 with 60 kg
military press: 3x5 with 40 kg
deadlift: 1x5 with 100kg
chins: 7,3,6

As you can see, the plan has become a little more complicated. But it's still basically eat, lift, sleep, repeat.

and yet I still can't escape the suspicion that I'd be better off doing crossfit. Somebody talk me either in or out of it permanently, for the love of god!
